About Mart de Brouwer

Education: Graphic School Eindhoven - department Repro.

Art education: autodidact.

After completing his study and having serveral jobs in the advertising industry, Mart made a career change and
started working  in the textile industry. He gained over 26 years of experience as a design artist.
All drawing and painting was then still done by hand.
Due to economic reasons Mart lost his job in 2006, but he took this chance to start as an independent artist,
operating under the name M-Art Decorations.
After working at home in the very beginning, in September 2006 he found a former piggery to work in,
located in the backyard of a farmer at Nuenen (close to Eindhoven).
After transforming this place to a warm and welcoming gallery, he officially opened this gallery in February 2007.
After a few years the space became too small and Mart started searching for a more spacious place.
In which he succeeded: he found a bigger, industrial space at the current location the Huufkes 34 at Nuenen.
In July 2010, with a lot of help from family and friends, he started to restyle the former paint shop.
Because of limited financial resources it was the ultimate challenge to make something special and original.

In November 2010 he officially opened the current gallery, which was a huge success.
Many interested visitors and clients are thrilled to pay a visit to his gallery ever since.

In October 2017 he has stopped running the gallery because of the lack of time to be busy with what he
most likes to do: being creative.

Since then he started a collaboration with Gallery Chiefs & Spirits in The Hague.

Mart's work

Mart is well known for his wall objects, which are unusual and attractive to the eye.
He developed a new technique of painting and using fire.
The process starts by using qualitatively material like wood. Mart burns it and finally paints it.

In addition to the burned and painted wall objects, Mart makes puzzled objects, for which he uses many colors of paint.
Creating other interior objects like tables, mirrors, cabinets and many others is also part of Mart's expertise.
He also provides the service of restyling existing objects. While restyling, he maintains his own creativity in a natural way.

Mart also provides commissioned work, for which he translates his creativity to the wishes of the client.

Na het afronden van de opleiding en diverse banen in de reclamebranche, is Mart per toeval terecht
gekomen in de textielbranche. Daar heeft hij ruim 26 jaar ervaring opgedaan als dessin-tekenaar.
Alles nog met de hand.....

Door economische redenen kwam Mart in 2006 zonder werk te zitten, maar is vrij snel als zelfstandig
kunstenaar voor zichzelf gaan werken onder de naam M-Art Decorations.
Na eerst vanuit huis te hebben gewerkt vond hij in september 2006 een werkplaats in een voormalige
varkensstal, bij een boer. De opening van zijn eigen galerie/atelier vond plaats op 11 februari 2007
nadat de ruimte compleet was getransformeerd.
Uiteindelijk werd de ruimte na een paar jaar te klein en vond hij een grotere, industriële ruimte op de
huidige locatie aan de Huufkes 34 te Nuenen.

Vanaf 1 juli 2010 startte hij daar met veel hulp van familie en vrienden aan het opknappen van het pand
waar voorheen een spuiterij in gevestigd was.

Doordat er weinig middelen beschikbaar waren, was het een ultieme uitdaging om er toch iets
speciaals/origineels van te maken. Dat het een mooie, gemoedelijke galerie met atelier geworden is
bleek uit de vele enthousiaste reacties op de officiële opening op 6 en 7 november 2010.

In Oktober 2017 is Mart gestopt met de galerie daar hij te weinig tijd had om te doen
wat hij het liefste doet: creatief bezig zijn. 

Sindsdien is hij een samenwerking aangegaan met Galerie Chiefs & Spirits in Den Haag.

Zijn werk.

Mart is vooral bekend om zijn bijzondere en vernieuwende muurobjecten.
Op deze objecten wordt een door hem zelf bedachte en ontwikkeld brand- en schildertechniek toegepast.

Elk uniek ontwerp wordt uit nieuw materiaal uitgebrand en daarna beschilderd met speciale verftechnieken.

Sinds korte tijd maakt Mart ook ingelegde, gepuzzelde objecten waarin hij veel kleuren gebruikt.
Naast deze muurobjecten maakt hij tevens interieurobjecten zoals tafels, spiegels, kasten, kandelaars, etc.

Mart werkt vaak in opdracht.
Uiteraard met behoud van zijn eigen creativiteit.
